Abdominoplasty (tummy tuck)

A tummy tuck, also known as abdominoplasty, is plastic surgery to remove excess fat and skin and, restores weakened or separated muscles creating an abdominal profile that is smoother and firmer. This surgical intervention is one of the five most popular plastic surgeries in the world.

Also, during abdominoplasty it is possible to reposition the belly button (navel) and even reshape it if necessary.

During abdominoplasty, it is possible to fix the rectus abdominis muscles, which have lost their natural anatomical structure (diastasis recti). This problem occurs both in women after giving birth and sharp weight loss, as well as in men.

It is important to know that during the surgery a sufficient amount of adipose tissue and excess skin is removed, but this is in no way a method of losing weight.

The following types of abdominoplasty are performed at Medines Medical Center:

  • Mini Tummy Tuck: It is performed to correct abdominal defects restricted to the lower abdome. When there is excess skin and there are no problems with the rectus abdominis muscles (diastasis recti) when there is no need to relocate the belly button (navel). It is a minimally invasive way to eliminate aesthetic discomfort.
  • Full Tummy Tuck is performed when it is necessary to eliminate diastasis, relocate the belly button and remove a sufficient amount excess skin and fat. It is also possible to simultaneously eliminate umbilical hernias or inguinal hernias using abdominal meshes.

Indications for abdominoplasty:

  • improving appearance
  • after giving birth, especially multiple times
  • after significant weight loss, both naturally through sports and proper nutrition, and after bariatric surgery
  • age-related changes in the body
  • after a cesarean section
  • the need for belly button reconstruction
  • restoration of the anatomy of the rectus abdominis muscles.
